Nina's Restaurant & Pizzeria
635 Meeker Avenue (At Kingsland Avenue) Greenpoint, Brooklyn [map]
What will, undoubtedly the first in a long line of Brooklyn pizza reviews, I would like to introduce you to Nina's Pizza. Located in Greenpoint, this modest pizza joint also features a full restaurant behind the pizzeria. I never had the fortune of eating in the full restaurant, but we can assure you that Nina's lives up to the typical Italian party room/restaurant type. As for the dcor, it is as hard working as Tony behind the counter manning the over - hard working and with little flair. Nina's has the requisite hoagies, a variety of pizza toppings, and pasta, but we stick to the pizza. Always.
Fortunately the pizza is outstanding. What separates Nina's from other pizzerias - besides being a ten minute round trip from our apartment door and back - is that when Tony and company make their pizzas, they add a bit more cheese to the top then other pizzerias in the area. And they don't burn the shit out of the crust. I have been told that some people love burnt crust pizza; these are people whom I don't want to meet, and if I do, I might just have words with them. Burn pizza? Travesty. Pizza is to be served hot and greasy, not burnt like you are eating coal. Burnt crust, please!
OK, back on topic, lets get the facts straight: Nina's is good pizza and good people. However, Nina's is every pizzeria in The City you have ever ate at. It is a cut above the rest in my book because of its proximity to my apartment. If you are in the Greenpoint vicinity and are itching for pizza or some good Italian ambiance, then Nina's is for you. Hell, I hit Nina's at least three times a week - you can't beat "2 slice plain" for $3.50 with a sick.

As I live with the author of this review, and also frquent Nina's (tho maybe not so often) Ifelt I had to throw in my two cents. In a nutshell, it's damn good pizza. I mostly get cheese, but the sausage is also highly recommended. Also, "2 slice plain" is $3.00 even, not $3.50 as reported. For someone who goes there so often, you think he'd know by now.
