Fatoosh Middle Eastern Pitza & BBQ
330 Hicks St, Brooklyn [map]
Fatoosh comes from a long tradition of Atlantic Avenue Middle Eastern BBQ’s. Charbroiled chicken and pitza – a combination of Italian pizza and Middle Eastern pita, which was “invented” at Fatoosh, and as the menu reads, has, “become a huge success.” This dubious claim is neither verifiable, nor altogether unfathomable. The real key is weather or not you like your pizza charbroiled. If not, then steer away from this establishment. The menu covers all of the Middle Eastern charbroiled favorites, from chicken wraps to Kebabs to gyros to the “infamous” pitza.
As a lunch establishment, Fatoosh works surprisingly well. You can sit at the cozy and intimate (read small) dining area, and if you so desire, peruse a back issue of American Artist while waiting for your meal. There are over 10 years worth of this tome for your enjoyment, or perhaps just small talk with present company would suffice. The owners are affable, and the food genial. I would recommend the Chicken Wrap and the Kebab as a lunch specialty.
If you find yourself in the area of Atlantic Avenue and Hicks Street, perhaps to walk on the Brooklyn Promenade, this establishment would be a hearty lunch. But I would suggest going to one of the many restaurants located on Montague Street instead or try Henry’s first, before going to Fatoosh. Unfortunately, Fatoosh, just like it’s placement at the end of Atlantic Avenue, is at bottom of Middle Eastern restaurants.
